Position Summary

Partners with the shift supervisor and assists in the coordination of production or shipping and receiving activities, maintaining quality control measures, monitoring productivity/service goals, and promoting a safe/lean culture. As a working lead, this position will also fabricate metal components by manual machining methods, operating CNC machines, and welding.  Be a leader in the machine shop towards continuous improvement and have extensive knowledge of all existing machine shop processes.

Position Responsibilities   

  • Responsibilities In conjunction with supervisor, oversee floor operations to include directing labor, the ability to flex labor based on business need, and the ability to maintain consistent work flow in all areas to meet customer service levels.
  • Confident in making recommendations to team and adjusting operations accordingly to meet service goals.
  • May recommend corrective action for execution by supervisors or management as needed.
  • Ensure policies and procedures are followed at all times.
  • Communicate in a professional/respectful manner operational priority, customer requirements, and develop teamwork between shifts.
  • Create and maintains a safety-conscious workforce by championing 6S, enforcing all safety policies and housekeeping practices, conducting safety meetings, and thorough accident/incident investigations.
  • Set up and run multiple CNC machines simultaneously, efficiently running parts through the equipment.
  • Weld using TIG and MIG processes on steel and aluminum of various grades.
  • Skilled in Waterjet Operation: Nesting, Programming, and Running
  • Fabricate, form, and press metals to shape using rolling, bending, and stamping equipment.
  • Operate band saws, drill presses, and other manual machining equipment.
  • Train associates in all areas of machine shop processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Superior time and priority management skills with ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including listening, coaching, diplomacy, and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, including GD&T.
  • Proficient in part inspection, including use of calipers, bore gauges, thread gauges, and micrometers and height gauge.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Team player.
  • Communication skills (written and oral).
  • Basic math, reading, and writing skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Basic understanding of ISO9001 and LEAN
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • Fast learner. Able to pick up new processes quickly.
  • Understanding of automated tool probing concepts.

Preferred experience

  • Welding using MIG and TIG processes.
  • 7+ Years’ experience in a machine shop environment

Education and Certification

  • Two (2) year machine trade school or Equivalent Experience.
