What we’re looking for…  

The Product Data Custodian’s role is a tangible function of the organization’s migration towards using product data to help drive business growth. This includes ensuring our product data is cared for through its complete lifecycle, as an enterprise asset. Product Data Custodians partner across the company to ensure data is created, managed, and effectively utilized as trusted enterprise assets – which leads to understood, controlled, and reliable downstream data.

 

Expectations & Accountabilities …  

  • Support with data entry for indirect materials such as MRO, Raw Materials, Semi-Finished, and Finished goods  and any discontinuation through the defined processes.
  • Manage the efforts to identify, troubleshoot, cleanse, organize and update data on an on-going basis.
  • Works with the business, data analysts, and data stewards to identify problems and root cause for data quality issues.
  • Responsible for maintaining globally defined master data attributes for their respective domains.
  • Responsible for ensuring master data records are compliant with master date creation/change matrices (yet to be developed.)
  • Ensure master data integrity in key systems.
  • Identify areas for data quality improvements and help to resolve data quality problems through the appropriate choice of error detection and correction, process control and improvement, or process design strategies.
  • Oversee data lifecycle including operational and administrative management of data and overall data curation – for multiple data domains/subdomains.
  • As needed, lead others in defining and assisting with implementing specific data quality requirements and present metrics documenting adherence and improvements to data quality rules.
  • Assist in development and maintenance of business requirements / classifications of data (e.g., retention, security classification, etc.)
  • Implement, enforce, and demonstrate strong understanding of data standards and policies.
  • Partner with other members of the data stewardship community.
  • Support multiple, highly complex business processes and serve as a functional leader.

What you’ll need to be successful… 

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience related to industry, functional and/or technical area of expertise.
  • 3+ years’ experience in data management, data governance, data quality, master data management, and/or designing and implementing functional systems and data in a structured process preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills with proven ability to establish and cultivate relationships with key partners.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to research data definition, usage, and flow to gain expertise in existing systems.
  • Expert troubleshooting skills to investigate resolve and escalate problems. Identifies need for technical assistance to help in problem resolution.
  • Deep understanding of some or all of the product data business data domain(s).
  • Ability to prioritize and manage tasks/projects along with recurring responsibilities and adjust to changing priorities with minimal leader input.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
  • Enterprise mind-set with ability to balance flexibility vs standardization.
  • Understand and can apply key data stewardship and data governance concepts.
  • Data and business analysis skills, including strong documentation skills (technical writing a plus).
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills including pivot tables, advanced charting, advanced formulas, conditional formatting.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of data flows and data sources within relational databases.
  • Advanced experience interacting with various database and file storage systems (DB2, IDMS, Oracle, Hadoop, NoSQL), data manipulation language (i.e. SQL), and/or data visualization tools (i.e. Tableau, Power BI).
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of education & experience is required with an emphasis in Business, Finance, Computer Science, Engineering or MIS strongly preferred.
