High school students currently enrolled in a Career and Technical Education program, machining track, are encouraged to consult with their teachers and apply to this part-time, work-based learning opportunity.

What we’re looking for

                                               

This part-time pre-apprentice position follows an established, state-recognized and registered Career and Technical Education (CTE) secondary/high school two-year training program leading to post graduate enrollment in a state registered apprentice program in the machining trades.  The program participant/student will be required to sign a program participant commitment / intention to successfully complete the program criteria.  The training criteria requires attending and successfully completing all program criteria which may include, an initial assessment, a mechanical, electrical, or related aptitude survey, high school/college courses and on-the-job training. 

The on-the-job training includes supporting and working under a designated Trainer experienced in the pre-apprentice’s target role, assisting, and performing a large range of technical duties such as but not limited to operational problem solving, repairs, installation, injection molding, machining, tooling and preventative maintenance on machinery, equipment, molds, tools and/or devices. 

A scheduled wage progression during the successful completion of this program may be included when specified in recognition of progressing successfully through the pre-apprenticeship and high school graduation. 

Expectations & Accountabilities

  • Train, assist and perform a large range of tooling, machining and industrial maintenance duties such as but not limited to operational problem solving, repairs, programming, installation and preventative maintenance on machinery, equipment, tools and/or devices.
  • Train, assist and perform troubleshooting and repair of a variety of equipment and processes including but not limited to hydraulic, mechanical, electrical and pneumatic systems.
  • Working as a Team Member within a Team Environment engaging and assisting in the operations problem solving and building and/or repairing of their equipment, machinery, etc.
  • Train, learn and operate a wide range of tools such as, CNC machine, hammers, hoists, saws, drills, wrenches, precision measuring instruments including any other shop tools and equipment.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and promotes safety in the work areas.
  • Troubleshoot and build/repair tools, molds, hydraulic, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.
  • Other duties as assigned

Position / Program Requirements

  • Current enrollment in High School career and technical education /CTE machining or related program
  • In good academic and attendance standing with school.
  • Referred and endorsed by high school for the pre-apprentice opportunity
  • Provide a signed program commitment agreement.
  • Successfully attend, participate, and complete (pass) required academic program at designated and authorized academic institution.
  • Provide Proof of High School enrollment in good standing.
  • Provide Proof of work eligibility under relevant State Minor Labor statues for pre-apprentice/CTE programs.
  • Demonstrated Mechanical aptitude to perform equipment troubleshooting and repair/rebuild.
  • Ability to understand product quality requirements, basic schematics and diagrams.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and manage daily activities (self-motivated and self–directed).
  • Must be able to work independently in a multi-tasking environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and supportive to meet changing work demands.
  • Understand, comprehend and complies with the Lock Out Tag Out procedures with all equipment.

Education and Certification:

  • Currently enrolled in a recognized High School Level Pre-apprenticeship course of study leading to eligibility for selection into a registered CNC Machinist or related trade Apprenticeship program
