2024 Oatey Summer Internship Program – The Oatey Intern Experience

The Oatey Intern Experience supports our growing organization by attracting talented students to develop them into future leaders. It is unique with one-on-one mentorship, developmental feedback and coaching, lunch series, engaging networking events and weekly forums. You will work closely with experts to develop your skills and gain valuable insight in your chosen career field. Additionally, you will have exposure to all leadership levels of Oatey. Lastly, you will have a great time networking with other interns and forge lasting relationships.

Intern Position Summary                             

Oatey’s Internal Communications Intern will have the opportunity to make an impact on various internal communications initiatives and support the continued growth of our robust employee communications program.

Our Intern will gain a deep understanding of Oatey’s internal communications publishing technology – including employee intranet/mobile app and digital signage, serving as the point person for posting and disseminating content to tailored audiences. A key responsibility of the role will be to develop compelling content that informs, motivates and engages all employees. Content will be delivered through Oatey’s intranet, weekly eNewsletter and digital signage channels, as well as cover a wide range of topics, including employee feature stories, event announcements, company news and more.

This position will report to Oatey’s Internal Communications Manager.

Expectations & Accountabilities…

Content Creation: Use technical aptitude to quickly train on Oatey’s communication technology platforms, in order to publish multiple pieces of content each week and target them to appropriate audiences. Includes the writing, editing, graphic designing (Canva) of content and coordination of formal approval processes

Project Management: Manage and track internal communication requests as assigned through Oatey’s project management tool

Event Support: Participate in the planning and execution of internal events including: preparation of materials and coordination of logistics

Research: Conduct research on industry trends and communication best practices to drive future strategies

Data Analysis: Retrieve, organize and analyze data from our employee intranet to assess its

performance. Utilize findings to provide guidance on how to grow platform’s adoption and engagement

Administrative Tasks: Provide administrative support to the Marketing team such as: coordinating meetings, building agendas, ordering/shipping materials and miscellaneous tasks as assigned

What you’ll need to be successful…

Education and Certification: Junior or senior in college.

  • Preferred major: Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Creative Writing, English or similar. However, other majors will be considered if applicant has relevant interests and skills.

  • Excellent writing skills (short-form and long-form), interest in writing in a business environment

  • AP Style knowledge is a plus

  • Ability to draft clear, concise and engaging content to different audiences

  • Tech-savvy, with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software/digital tools

  • Proficiency in Canva platform

  • Familiarity with other content management platforms is a plus

  • A keen eye for creativity and detail

  • Confident self-starter, comfortable in a fast-paced work environment

  • Strong organizational skills, effective at managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines simultaneously

  • Critical thinker and problem solver with a positive mindset

  • Highly collaborative and adaptable, able to partner with team members across various departments/levels of the organization

  • A proactive team player able to jump in to support coworkers and learn new skills

  • Ability to receive and apply feedback constructively to enhance performance

  • Prior experience in corporate communications or a similar role is desirable but not required
